To turn a Surface tablet or professional video display device, such as an LCD display, into a teleprompter accessory, just use teleprompter software to display the script. Software suited for this purpose is necessary because when the text is reflected on the teleprompter, it gets flipped. Teleprompter software flips the text on your device’s screen, so that when it is reflected and flipped on the teleprompter, it will be in the right orientation. Many software offer features such as scrolling with the mouse. Using a Surface running Windows 8 (as opposed to Windows 8 RT) is recommend, as traditional Windows teleprompter programs can run on it.
An advantage with the Surface tablet is that you can connect a mouse to it, and use the scroll wheel of the mouse to scroll the script. You can easily find teleprompter software for Windows by searching online (if your tablet can run traditional Windows programs). You can also connect an external monitor to the Surface tablet. Many teleprompter software allow you to select which display is for the teleprompter, and which is for normal viewing, and will correctly flip the script on the displays. This setup is suited for studio or field recording where a crew behind the camera can view the live script on an external monitor and scroll it for the presenter.
Of course, you need a teleprompter, which mounts to your camera and has a dedicated space for mounting your Surface. See the photo below for an overview of the setup: The teleprompter has a tilted reflection surface so that the screen of your Surface can be seen right in front of the camera lens. The one-way reflection surface ensures that the camera lens will not see the screen, and can capture images as usual. The on-camera presenter can look into the lens and talk directly to the audience while seeing the script at the same time. InvisiPrompt offers a versatile teleprompter that be easily setup with your camera and Surface. InvisiPrompt can fit all Surface models.
