To turn an LCD screen or professional display device into a teleprompter accessory, just connect to a computer and use teleprompter software to display the script. Software suited for this purpose is necessary because when the text is reflected on the teleprompter, it gets flipped. Teleprompter software flips the text on your display, so that when it is reflected and flipped on the teleprompter, it will be in the right orientation. Many software offer features such as scrolling with the mouse.

 

You can connect an LCD screen or professional video display to a computer and run teleprompter software. If using a laptop, for example, a crew member can see the script on the laptop and scroll it for the presenter. On a desktop, it is easy to connect and duplicate output on multiple displays so that those behind the camera can have control over the script. Many teleprompter software allows you to select which display is for the teleprompter, and which is for normal viewing, and will correctly flip the script on the displays. This setup is suited for studio recording where the crew in charge of the teleprompter might be located further away from the camera, such as in a control room. Easy duplication of the display means that other members of the production team can see what the teleprompter is displaying. For example, a VGA or HDMI distribution amplifier can be connected to the video output of your computer, and cables can be extended to control rooms or other areas for the crew to monitor and scroll the script being displayed on the teleprompter.
